Macassar ebony box with silvered bronze Turin plaque

This fantastic box is in macassar ebony veneer and has an octagonal silvered bronze plaque by Pierre Turin inlaid to the top of the lid. The plaque depicts a woman holding a garland of flowers in her right hand and on her right shoulder with her left arm raised in front of her face and her left hand supporting the garland above her head. The plaque is stamped "P Turin" and the edge is stamped "Bronze" and has the Cornucopia mark for the Paris Mint. A wonderful box.

Pierre Turin
(1891-1968)
Born in Sucy-en-Brie, France, he attended the École des Beaux-Arts, where he studied under Vernon, Patey and Coutain.
He won the Grand Prix de Rome in 1920, and was made Chevalier of the Légion d’Honneur in 1936.
Although generally considered to be the most accomplished Art Deco medallist, his most famous medal was for the 1925 International Exposition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Arts.
